The community of Philadelphia is mourning the death of Terrance J. Scanlon Jr., a beloved basketball coach, mentor, and proud Archbishop Ryan High School alumnus who passed away suddenly on May 24, 2026, at the age of 32.

School officials and former players described him as someone who cared deeply about his students and built relationships that extended far beyond the basketball court. In a world overflowing with people treating coaching like résumé filler, he apparently remembered it was actually about kids.

Raised in Philadelphia’s Chalfont neighborhood, Terrance attended Our Lady of Calvary School before earning his undergraduate degree from West Chester University and later a master’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University. Friends and loved ones remembered him for his kindness, dedication to community, and genuine ability to make others feel supported and valued.

Terrance is survived by his parents, Terrance and Kelly Scanlon, along with his siblings Brendan and Grace, grandparents, extended family, friends, former teammates, and countless students whose lives he impacted.
